The Show

In many ways the show is the culmination of much of the work we've done all year in Language, in Math, Art, in Music, in Dance and Drama.

It's a summary and celebration of our journey together academically, socially and creatively.

Here are some notes about the process and the journey.

Science MCAS

Thursday, May 21st - Science session 1

Friday, May 22nd - Science session 2

There are TWO test sessions.

We will aim for 9:00am starts. On the first day we have to do all the preliminary guff which means we won't start till roughly 9:30am. The tests are untimed - they are intended to take one hour, but they usually take between two and three hours for the majority of students!

Eat well, sleep early, relax and dominate the tests!

Don't worry - we'll be more than ready!

Summary of Science Curriculum

Follow this link for a comprehensive summary of all the main subject areas you need to be prepared for to succeed in the Science MCAS. If you can answer questions in all these areas you should be fine - notwithstanding the inevitable curveballs so beloved of the MCAS team!!!

It's going to be a great afternoon.

Support local music.

Be there or be somewhere else!!

After-school MCAS prep Science Classes

I will be staying late over the next few weeks to review Fourth Grade Science work:

Monday, May 4th: Weather

Thursday, May 7th: Properties of Matter

Monday, May 18th: Electricity and Magnetism

Tuesday, May 19th: Animal Adaptations

The classes will run from 3:00 until 4:00pm.

Dismissal at the main office.

Students should bring an extra snack and drink for the class.

I would strongly encourage students to attend these classes to answer any questions and address any doubts they may have about these subjects. Roughly forty percent of the content of the Fifth grade Science MCAS test is material last taught during the Fourth grade!

The students who do a good job reviewing the Fourth grade material are the ones who typically make the Advanced category in the final tests.

T Shirt making 2014

Here's a photo library of  the students at work on Halloween!

Friday, October 31st

1:30 - 2:30pm

To celebrate the Autumn, the Fifth grade will spend this Friday afternoon decorating T-shirts with the flavor of the day. Students need to bring a (disposable) white T-Shirt and fabric markers for this event.

A great way for the whole grade to prepare for the rigors of the evening!

Friday is also...

Mismatch Day.

Students and Teachers should arrive in clothes that don't match.

Isn't that every day at the Brooks, especially for Mr. Allen?

DARE classes

This week, the DARE class begins with the excellent Officer Pat O'Keefe on Tuesday, October 21st . The class is a once a week class that takes about seven weeks to complete. Permission slips have come home already: the class is optional and requires parent's permission to proceed. The 'textbooks' for the class will be coming home for your perusal on Tuesday afternoon.

The program  incorporates physical science framework connections on the subject of Simple machines and math connections, such as graphing results.

It's also really good fun!
