Belinda - POSTPONED until May

Sometime in May, all Fifth grade students in Medford get to see Belinda, a piece of Medford's history brought to life. This is a theatrical presentation concerning the life of Belinda Sutton and her petition of 1783 to the Massachusetts General Court in which she recounted her life story and claimed a pension from the estate of her previous slave holder, Isaac Royall Jr.

Project Period

In many ways the show is the culmination of much of the work we've done all year in Language, in Math, Art, in Music, in Dance and Drama.

It's a summary and celebration of our journey together academically, socially and creatively.

Here are some notes about the process and the journey.

Report Cards and Conferences

The season for report cards and conferences is approaching.

This page will tell you everything you need to know about this period including:

  • When reports cards are due.

  • How to book a teacher conference

  • What to expect at the conference

You can contact me about scheduling a conference by email. Slots will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. This page will be updated frequently so you can see the available slots!

Windmills Workshop

Thursday, November 3rd

9:15 - 10:15 - Ms. O'Leary

10:30 - 11:30 - Ms. O'Donnell

11:45 - 12:45 - Mr. Allen

1:30 - 2:30 - Ms. Conti

Students practice the steps of the engineering design process as they test how changing aspects of a windmill blade effect its efficiency. They design and test their own blades, with a strong emphasis on identifying independent and dependent variables, team planning and design.

The program  incorporates physical science framework connections on the subject of Simple machines and math connections, such as graphing results.

It's also really good fun!

DARE Class

This week, the DARE class begins with the excellent Officer Pat O'Keefe on Tuesday, November 1st. The class is a once a week class that takes about seven weeks to complete.

Permission slips have come home already: the class is optional and requires parent's permission to proceed.

The 'textbooks' for the class will be coming home for your perusal on Tuesday afternoon.
