This will be a list of all the things we will do during our time together....

 

Fifth Grade Kimball Farm Field Trip

All fifth grade classes will visit the Park on

Friday, June 8th.

Come and celebrate our fantastic year.

Bus leaves at 9:00am. Return to school at 2:30pm

All students should bring lunch and snack.

Confirmed Chaperones (the more the merrier!):

 

 

Royall House trip

Thursday, June 7th

11:00 - 12:30pm

This short trip is an annual event mandated and organized by the administration.

It's free and every fifth grade in Medford visits. We travel by big yellow bus, so a permission slip will be sent home.

Fifth-Grade Junior Olympics

Monday, June 4th (rain date June 6th)

9:00 - 12:30pm

Hormel Stadium

Parents are welcome at this wonderful annual event designed for prospective Middle School students to meet other students while engaging in good-spirited physical endeavor.

The aim is not so much to encourage competitive behavior as to support and promote collegiality and the expansion of social horizons for all students as the Middle School future approaches.

This is always a great and exciting event.

Come along and support our cherubs!

DARE Graduation Ceremony

Thursday, March 15th

9:00 - 10:00am

Cafetorium, Brooks School

Selected students will read their essays, DARE officers, the Chief of Police and other dignataries make speeches, then all the students receive their graduation certificates and merchandise. Many parents usually attend this event so get there early to get a good seat!

Students should dress in their finery!

 

 

Coding Workshop

Each Friday afternoon for the next two months or so the students will be working with Tufts Computer educator, the splendidly named, Dr. Strange and her Tufts graduate student Anna to learn about computer programming.

At first, the students will learn about a coding platform called, 'Scratch'. After that, the students will be designing computer games using another coding tool called, 'Python'.

Electromagnetism in-house 'field trip'

The PTO Enrichment committee have brought us this special workshop for all Fifth grade students. It's a forty-five minute long workshop.

Our class will be taking the workshop at 11:00am.

Project Period

In many ways the show is the culmination of much of the work we've done all year in Language, in Math, Art, in Music, in Dance and Drama.

It's a summary and celebration of our journey together academically, socially and creatively.

The season for report cards and conferences is approaching.

DARE Class

The DARE class begins with the excellent Officer Pat O'Keefe on

Tuesday, November 14th.

The class is a once a week class that takes about seven weeks to complete.

Permission slips have come home already: the class is optional and requires parent's permission to proceed.

The 'textbooks' for the class will be coming home for your perusal soon

To celebrate the Autumn, the Fifth grade will spend this Monday afternoon decorating T-shirts with the flavor of the day. Students need to bring a (disposable) white T-Shirt and fabric markers for this event.

A great way for the whole grade to prepare for the rigors of the evening!

Whatever the date, I'll be doing a 'question and answer' session from 5:30 - 6:30pm.

The main presentation will be from 6:30pm onwards.

I'll keep it as brief as possible - but I also aim to be detailed and thorough.

Hopefully, I'll be entertaining and amusing too!
