Windmills Workshop

Tuesday, January 8th

9:00 -  10:00 - Mrs. Tuttle's Class

10:10 - 11:10 - Ms. Conti's Class

11:20 - 12:20 - Mr. Allen's Class

1:30 - 2:30 - Ms. Butera's Class

The Museum of Science presents the Windmills Workshop. The Students practice the steps of the engineering design process as they test how changing aspects of a windmill blade effect its efficiency. They design and test their own blades, with a strong emphasis on identifying independent and dependent variables, team planning and design.

The program  incorporates physical science framework connections on the subject of Simple machines and math connections, such as graphing results.

It's also really good fun!

 

 

 

Coding Workshop

Each Friday afternoon for the next few weeks  the students will continue working with Computer educator, the splendidly named, Kate Fractal to learn about computer coding and programming.

The students will learn about a coding platform called, 'Scratch'.

Project Period

In many ways the show is the culmination of much of the work we've done all year in Language, in Math, Art, in Music, in Dance and Drama.

It's a summary and celebration of our journey together academically, socially and creatively.

Report Cards and Conferences

The season for report cards and conferences is approaching.

DARE Class

Tuesday November 13th

The DARE class has begun with the excellent Officer Pat O'Keefe.

The class is a once a week class that takes about seven weeks to complete.

The 'textbooks' for the class should have come home for your perusal already.

 

T Shirt making

Tuesday, October 30th

1:30 - 2:30pm

To celebrate the Autumn, the Fifth grade will spend this Tuesday afternoon decorating T-shirts with the flavor of the day. Students need to bring a (disposable) white T-Shirt and fabric markers for this event.

A great way for the whole grade to prepare for the rigors of the following evening!

Professional Development day

Autumn Open Mic

On Friday, October 12th  take part in the next Open Mic event.

When: 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Where: Cafetorium at the Brooks.

If you can sing, play an instrument, dance, juggle, do gymnastics, or tell a tale why not jump up on the stage and share your passion?

All ages welcome to perform.

The music Department presents an option for Fifth grade - to learn a brass instrument.

It happens in the library and sign up information for parents will be arriving by backpack express on Wednesday afternoon!
